| Golf's HARD - Why? | Why is GOLF such a mentally challenging game? | |||||

1. You have sole responsibility for your own actions on the course, and can't blame anyone else. 2. Unlike many sports that are played under timed conditions, golf is an un-timed game. 3. In golf, you spend more time thinking about playing rather than just playing, so it's easy to lose your concentration, start dwelling on your mistakes, worrying about your next shot etc. In other words you mind is busy in the past or future and you lose being in the moment. On a round of golf lasting about 4 hours, you could be spending around 85% of your time just thinking and walking. 4. Unlike reactive sports such as tennis, squash, football etc., which use unconscious or instinctive reactions, golfers tend to analyse their technique rather than allowing themselves to just instinctively play. |
